ANNUAL REPORT 2020-2021

Our Sangam was established in 2002 by a few eminent persons of Tamil Community residing in Pune. The chief objectives for its formation are Charity in the form of -

  1. Assist economically needy school-going children.
  2. Help Senior Citizens in need of financial aid and moral support.
  3. Honour outstanding children and those helping our society.
  4. Aid victims affected by natural calamities and
  5. Organise cultural programmes that focus on Tamil culture.
    This committee from day one of its formation geared itself to implementing the objectives by drawing out (a) schedules (b) booking the halls and (c) interacting with members so as to collect their annual subscription that would fund the objectives.
    The sudden Covid-19 epidemic that descended in March 2020 resulted in total lock-down. The suddenness and its uncertainty took the committee, like everyone, off-guard. After the initial hesitancy the committee took it as a challenge and decided to meet the situation headlong.

 

1.Assist economically needy children
Responding to the fervent appeal and the consistent efforts of the members of the committee, members contributed Rs.94,552 to the Sangam for this noble cause. THE COMMITTEE THANKS THE MEMBERS FOR THEIR SUPPORT DURING THESE TRYING TIMES. Adding Rs.6,695 from its reserve Sangam gave Rs.1,01,247 towards charity.

Out of this Rs.50,000 was donated to S. V. S. School, Khadki – a Tamil Medium School – to pay the annual fees for 10 children.


2.Senior Citizens in need of help
The committee identified Aishwaryam Trust as one that was doing yeoman’s service in rehabilitating many Senior disabled and abandoned individuals in Madurai. After due scrutiny Sangam donated Rs.40,000 towards running this Trust.


3.Honouring Outstanding Students
The committee allotted Rs. 1500 and presented Trophy to the children of SSC and ISC.

4.Aid victims affected by Natural Calamities
Many from Tamil Nadu working in Satara , a district in Maharashtra, got stranded and lost their jobs due to Covid-19 restrictions. Through a store in Satara Sangam provided groceries worth Rs.9,747 and assisted in their safe return to Tamil Nadu.


5.Cultural Programmes that focus on Tamil Culture


5.1 Pattimandram on 7th . June 2020 
Holding a live Pattimandram online was a novel idea as this was never attempted. While Dr. Gnanasambandam, an ace speaker was the Naduvar the participants were our Sangam members. The topic “Pandigaigalal kondattama thindattama “was thoroughly discussed and moderated. It was shown on You tube and got rave reviews from 943 viewers.


5.2 Humorous Talk on 16th.August 2020
Well-known speaker Mr. Mohanasundaram gave an illuminating humorous talk on “Anbe Aram “. It kept the viewers rolling with laughter.


5.3 Manathai Thotha Manidargal This year Sangam started a new serial called Manathai Thotha Manidargal in which we interview eminent personalities who had contributed enormously to our society in any field.


The inaugural episode done on 15th. Oct. 2020 was with Dr. Balaguruswamy of Aishwaryam Trust. Our Vice-President Dr. L. Satyanarayanan conducted the interview.
On 6th. Dec.2020 the next episode was done with Pyramid Natarajan, a famous TV personality. He has been doing considerable social service.


5.4 Kalai Kalangiyam
This event was wholly done by members of our Sangam and their children who gave a variety entertainment comprising singing, dancing and playing on musical instruments. It provided a platform for many budding artists to blossom.


5.5 Golu Competition
Navarathri festival provides us an opportunity to strengthen our friendship between friends and relatives. During normal times, people visit one another to see the decorated dolls on display. This year due to the pandemic it was not to be. Sangam came up with the idea of holding an online display of the participants and held this competition in October. Many enthusiastically participated.


Annual General Meeting

The 19th. AGM was held on Sunday the 27th. September2020, via a Zoom Meet forced by the pandemic situation. This again was a new experience as it was never done before. The attendees thoroughly discussed all the relevant points and the resolutions were passed.
