PONGAL VIZHA – 19TH JANUARY 2020

Pongal has been the premier festival for Tamilians the world over. It is eagerly looked forward by all with great anticipation.

Our Sangam considers celebrating it with great zeal since it provides the members to showcase their talent in one single platform. It also provides the members to interact with each other.

This year we celebrated the Pongal Vizha on January 19, 2020 at Vrindavan A/C hall at Paud Road. The members came in large numbers and eagerly participated in the event.

The hall was tastefully decorated with marigold garlands and our poster as a backdrop. Kuttu Villakku, Pongal pot, sugarcane and a beautiful Kolam added beauty to the place .

The program began with lighting of the lamp and by singing Tamil Thai Vazhthu. The ladies followed by singing prayer songs, old film songs, Bharatanatyam and Kuchupudi dances. Kids shook their tiny toes to the accompaniment of latest Tamil film songs.

They further regaled the audience with Kolattam, thereby upholding our tradition. The MC held the audience in splits with light humour and mimicry. The minds of the members were picked intermittently by quiz questions on Pongal. The seniors joined the revelry by going down the memory lane and enacted a marriage proposal scene.

Each participant was given a gift in appreciation of the effort put in.

All in all, a great variety of entertainment was provided to cater to the needs of members.

This great entertainment was followed by a sumptuous lunch of sweet pongal, sambar rice, Aviyal, curd rice etc.

On the whole the members enjoyed the day, celebrating Pongal Vizha.
